This is a great iniative! As a researcher on post-Soviet courts (including in Moldova), it's fantastic to get more English language analysis on Moldovan politics. Keep up the good work!

Hi Tom - I'm kinda fascinated by your comment. Do you research post Soviet law or judicial systems? or is there some specific part? If you have time, drop me an email I'd love to learn more (I believe you can respond to newsletter posts and I will get them... kinda new to substack).

Hi David - I have to reply here because I couldn't reply via email. My research is on how elites fight for control of courts in Armenia, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. And also on how courts increasingly intervene in political matters in these countries. I am currently based in Yerevan but hope to come to Moldova eventually.

TY David! Stephen and I receive the Moldova Foundation weekly publication and we perceive this news delivery to be unbiased, factual information. A second source of internal news, yours, looks to be a promising added elevation of information.

Is Moldova Matters primarily op-ed or what are your sources for reporting, please?

We appreciate this side hustle considering everything else your hands are into these crazy days!

Hi Lisa, thanks for the question! My intention is to occasionally an an op-ed and to clearly mark it as such. This "Weekly Roundup" though is just what it sounds like - a roundup of the main stories in Moldova this week. I try and add some context and I will readily admit that I approach things from a certain point of view. I'm not a journalist but the intention is to present an unbiased look at what's going on.

As to sources, I'm trying to provide lots of links throughout the text. Take a look through them and you can see what I read and where things come from. If there is ever something unsourced you want to ask about please comment and I'll try and answer!
