David I know we are all so grateful for your careful and patient understanding and explanation of what’s going on in this little country that is still so alive for all of us…
Great analysis. Moldova just started shaping it’s will and until people are divided the winning party ( Russia vs Europe) will determine Moldova’s fate.
Too many confuse historical inability to do "nation building" in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, along with ignorant anti-Communist activities in Central & South America with the potential for democracy in these post-Soviet republics, which have been struggling to follow the examples of Poland & Czechia first, and then Romania and Bulgaria.
Then there are those who think they know what corruption is because of U.S. politics and maybe the last administration. These tend to trivialize the threat of Russia, or else sigh and figure the damage has already been done so why bother (after all, look at all those Mayfair houses that are owned by Russian oligarchs.)

Superb read, thank you. I have learned more about Moldova in this article than I learnt the rest of my entire life!

David, thanks for providing another great analysis.
Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine now depend on the extent to which the Western world can still be inspired and motivated by the ideas Anne Applebaum explains here: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2022/05/autocracy-could-destroy-democracy-russia-ukraine/629363/

Thanks for update. It certainly helps me to understand all the events.
