On Friday July 26th the Summer Olympic Games will begin in Paris. Moldova is sending 26 athletes competing in 10 sports to the games as well as an 5 athletes competing in 3 sports to the Paralympic Games.
Prior to their departure, Team Moldova (#TeamMoldova) met with President Sandu who wished them well saying:
"Dear athletes, you are the best! And I want you to hear this here in the presidency and know that I speak on behalf of the entire nation. Only the best of the best participate in the Olympic Games, and for each of you this is an outstanding achievement, and for us it is a great reason to be proud of our country,"
The President presented a Moldovan flag to archers Alexandra Myrca and Dan Olaru who will carry it at the opening ceremony.
Prime Minister Recean also wished the team well telling them:
"I am proud that in recent years Moldova has been increasingly talked about in terms of its sporting achievements. Thank you for making the government's job easier, and when we go abroad, we are recognized. You are the best not only in Moldova, and you will prove it when one of you return home with medals,"
The government also approved prize money for the participants allocating 3 million lei per gold metal, 2.6 million per silver medal and 2 million for bronze.

Moldova Will Participate in Security at the Olympics
In addition to athletes and coaches Moldova is sending 8 Carabinieri (Gendarmerie) and the Fulger Special Forces Brigade of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to assist in providing security for the Olympics and Paralympics.
"This mission provides a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices, enhancing the operational capabilities of the parties involved. The participation of the Carabinieri helps to strengthen the international image of the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri and reflects the commitment and professionalism of the Moldovan Carabinieri in ensuring security at such major events,"
