While the results are still being processed, and the final picture is not yet clear, one thing is, PAS has won a major victory tonight. With 91% of precincts reporting in Moldova we see that President Sandu’s PAS party has a major lead in the parliamentary elections. These results do not yet include the diaspora vote which totals close to 1/5 of the electorate and is expected to go overwhelmingly to PAS. We will write far more detailed results in the coming days, but at this moment the question is not whether PAS will have a parliamentary majority, but how bit will that majority be?
While looking at results, keep in mind that Moldova uses a complicated formula for allocating seats in Parliament for those parties who gathered votes but did not break the threshold that allows parliamentary seats. This formula favors strongly the leading party. So more than 51 seats for PAS is nearly guaranteed at this point. And much more is possible.
